MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Purpose

The Mokihana Club invites graduating high school music students to apply for the annual music scholarship competition. The purpose of the competition is to encourage talented Kaua’i high school seniors to further their music education.

Scholarship amount will be determined by The Mokihana Club Scholarship Committee. 

Over the years, The Mokihana Club has awarded more than $70,000 to talented qualifying seniors in both private and public schools. 

Eligibility

An applicant must have resided on Kauai for a minimum of four months prior to the competition. If the applicant is studying on another Hawaiian island, entry is allowed if the immediate family meets the residency requirement. The applicant must be a 2026 graduating senior who plans to attend an accredited college, university, or vocational school, or must be studying with a qualified music teacher if pursuing a career in music. The Mokihana Club Board of Directors reserves the right to demand proof of eligibility.

Application

The applicant must provide the following:

  • Completed application form
  • A signed recommendation from entrant’s high school music teacher, counselor, or private teacher. 

The Mokihana Club Board of Directors reserves the right to reject any applicant whose application is not received by email by the deadline of Friday, March 13, 2026.

Competition

Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at 10:30 A.M.

  • Entrants should make arrangements to be away from school lessons between 10:00 A.M. and 11:30 A.M.
  • Piano entrants must be prepared to perform from memory.
  • Each entrant’s performance must be at least three minutes long but no longer than seven minutes long.
  • Entrants are to arrange for their own accompanist if needed.
  • Amplification and taped accompaniments are not allowed.

All matters pertaining to the competition should first be brought to the attention of the Competition Chairperson who will then consult with the Board of Directors if necessary.

Judging

The elements upon which the student will be judged includes but may not be limited to: talent, stage presence, poise, professional appearance, and artistic selection.

In all matters involving the competition, the decision of The Mokihana Club will be final.

Awards and Presentation

Following the April meeting of the Board of Directors, each participant will be notified in writing by the Music Chairperson of the results of the competition.
